HELLLLLLP MEEEEEEE

There's so much genealogy and I can't do it all. But I WANNA.

On Monday, I attended a webinar about the Library of Virginia and all of its resources. If we have folks in Virginia, it's an excellent repository, both online and in person. Today, I have another webinar to attend, concerning records from the War of 1812. Anything prior to 1850 is SCARY and I'm trying to address this fear. Tomorrow, I will attend another, about migration between Canada and the United States - my Tinsleys were big fans of the back-and-forth stuff.

The awesome thing about all of these is that they're free. My local genealogical society sends out a weekly email with information about such events, which is gathered from Conference Keeper.

Also on my agenda:
- reinstating my membership with NSDAR
- finishing my application with The Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington (speaking of my Tinsleys)
- joining up with the Clark County Historic Cemetery Foundation, and
- finally taking the plunge with these folks - always on my mind, but I've never made the move of formally becoming a member. THAT ENDS AFTER MY NEXT TRIP. I can't go to most of their meetings since they're usually during my work shifts, but I can get the membership price on the classes they offer, which is always lower, so it's worth it to have a membership.

In the meantime, I've been working on a "character sketch" kind of blurb document thing where everyone is listed alphabetically by last name, with their name, BMD, burial info, parents' names, and relationship to me. It's a Word document using two columns per page. The Johnson families are all interspersed and I feel like I'll eventually have to tease all these people apart somehow, possibly rearrange them into Mom's side vs Dad's side. But as it is right now, it's fun and getting more tangled and confusing by the day.

(I blame Samuel Dugan for the above project - it was so cool to find out that he's buried in Portland. Now I need to know where everyone is, so that if they're close, I can visit them.)

And as much fun as that is, I've also discovered using the DAR website to add my patriot ancestors' info to my family tree. I'd like to connect myself to all the patriot ancestors I can find - not all of my lines reach into the Revolutionary War timeframe, which MUST be remedied - and the more info I can find, the better.

Genealogy is a fun obsession, isn't it? There are so many outlets to play with!
